District St Georges Day Parade

23 December 2013
All Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Leaders will be invited and expected to attend. St George is the Patron Saint of Scouting, chosen by B-P as an example for his attitude and duty to others. The District Commissioner invites all Scout Groups/Explorer Units, together with their Leaders to attend the St. George’s Day Service of Celebration, to renew our Promises at Tewkesbury Abbey on Sunday 4th May 2014 at 3.00 p.m.

BEFORE THE SERVICE We have been invited to muster on the Vicar’s lawn at 2.30pm ready to move into the Abbey at 2.45pm.  The plan is to march under the gatehouse and then through the west end of the church yard and into the Abbey via the Great West door.

  • Full and correct uniform should be worn, no trainers.
  • Rainwear and jackets only to be worn in the event of rain.
  • For added warmth, additional clothes may be worn under the uniform (e.g. jumper or T shirt)
  • The Service will be conducted by our District Chaplain – The Revd. David Deboys and assisted by the District Commissioner and young people.
  • The Service will last approximately 45 mins.
  • A collection will be taken during the Service as indicated in the Order of Service.
  • Leaders are asked to collect monies from each section before the Service and hand it to the Scouts doing the collection at the appropriate time.
  • Following the National Anthem, everyone is asked to remain standing while the Flags and our guests leave the Abbey.
  • Sections will be asked to leave the Abbey by the Great West Door and return to the Vicar’s garden and form up in a large horseshoe in readiness for dismissal by the DC.
  • Leaders are invited to take refreshments along with our guests in the Parish Hall following the service.
